Big, Bloviating Wastes of Money

Worried about the political heat from high gasoline prices, the House is preparing to vote on a bill that would impose criminal and civil penalties on any energy company caught price gouging.
This is what we pay our representatives for? If they don't have anything better to do with their time, maybe we should just send all of them home. It's also appalling that the people who represent us in our government understand so little about the economy. Or maybe they do understand the economy, but they pander to us with silly legislation. I don't know which is worse.

I especially loathed this:
"One of the things we worry about when we cut the tax on gasoline is that it basically stimulates additional use," said Edward Lazear, chairman of the White House's Council of Economic Advisers.
So it's the government's job to manipulate the market by taking our money?

UPDATE: Now if we could just get members of Congress to read this. Especially this:
Why are gas prices so high? Unprecedented economic growth in Asia and instability in nations like Venezuela have a lot to do with it.
But then again, maybe most of them went to public schools and have never heard of those places.

Girl, its much worse than you can imagine. These same morons, who bloviate without end over gasoline prices and alleged but never proven "gouging" are themselves perps in some of the worst gouging schemes ever devised----agricultural subsidies and price controls, which increase the cost of almost everything we eat and drain our wallets so their fat cat corporate friends in the world of agribusiness (cleverly disguised as "small farmers") can get checks from Uncle in the six and seven figures every year.

Worst perp in AR----Ms. Blanche, the flower of the Delta.

You mean, there's supply AND demand at work affecting pricing? OK, am I on Candid Camera?
