Other supporters, including Penn, Sarandon, novelist Alice Walker and actor Danny Glover will join a 'rolling" fast, a relay in which 2,700 activists pledge to refuse food for at least 24 hours, and then hand over to a comrade.Note to Hollywood: A "relay" or "rolling hunger strike" is not a hunger strike at all. It is a single day without food.
How about a rolling labor strike? One guy will picket outside for one day while everyone else works. He'll go back to work the next day, and another guy will come out and picket for a day. Then that guy will trade off with someone else and so on.
Lame and unserious.
As long as I'm on the subject, I'll offer a prediction: If Sheehan does truly fast without sneaking food, she will tire of it before her two months are up. She'll feign a medical emergency (my guess: collapsing from exhaustion), be taken to the hospital, and end her fast. Then she'll hail herself as having almost died in service to her ideals, and the Left will trumpet her as a great hero.

Next stop - "pair-fasts", in which only one person out of a pair eats at a time. Just think how long that could go on.
Next, they will use the think system from Professor Harold Hill of the Music Man. You won't actually eschew food (pun intended) you will just imagine that you did. We'll call it.... the Think Fast System.
Brilliant!
If a real hunger strike is such a bother, then why don't they just hire some illegal aliens to go hungry for them?
In other news, Alec Baldwin turned down a second serving of pie as part of a rolling fast in support of Cindy Sheehan.
This is no fast, this is like Saddam's hunger strike where he skipped lunch one day.
As my wife pointed out, the purpose of fasting not supposed to be to call attention to yourself. Just the opposite, in fact.
I guess I need to start calling the newspaper every time I forget to eat.
So I suppose when the boss asks you to take lunch breaks at different times to make sure someone is there to answer client calls, that's a hunger strike, too? Because at any given time, someone is not eating.
These people wouldn't know fasting if it raised up and bit them in the hiney. On two occassions long ago I fasted (not even a sip of water) for 72 hours. I don't think many of those self-indulgent types have the fortitude. And Matt's wife is quite correct.
Just like Hollywood to put on act of insignificance. Like a prop set their protests are all a phony front. Hopefully, a few of them snap a spine trying to kiss their own asses.
Hiring illegles...LOL. I myself have decided to hold a hunger strike protesting idiots. I started just after lunch and plan of fasting a total of 5 hours. Anyone want to take the 6-11 shift?
The idea of a rolling fast to maximize the self-importance of celebrities while minimizing their actual sacrifice for their beliefs is wonderful. What would be even better, though, is a rolling, tree sitting blackout that somehow involves a Toyota Prius.
Does anyone know if I can patent this idea as a process if I change its description to "Organized Dieting", 'cause I smell money to be made.
Let me know if something tangible has to be integral to this process. You know, like wearing a silver beanie to show your membership.
I thought all those actresses in Hollywood were already on
a hunger strike... How else do you fit into a size 000?
Is Rob Reiner involved in this one?
Not to mention that there are more press photographers than "fasters."
Photographers? What are they taking pictures of? Them not eating?
Hollywood stars starving themselves???
Uhmmm. This is somehow new.
A more startling form of protest would be if Calista Flockhart or the Twin Peaks chick would have a pig-out, and NOT purge afterward!
Anyone notice that will all this free publicity out there for the taking: Cindy Sheehan announces hunger strike, Michael Moore strangely silent. Even the rolling hunger strike is too much, although I do think someone should forward to Moore's publicity team an earlier commenter's idea, the Alec Baldwin "skip a 2nd piece of pie" fast -- that's very good.
