Kerry's Lack of Common Social Grace

Say a coworker walks into my office, and I say, "You jerk!" The coworker, of course, is offended. Which of the following would be the proper response from me?

A) "Oh! I am so so sorry! I didn't mean you. I was just reading this article about John Kerry, and I was talking about him. Sorry about that." OR

B) "You want an apology out of me? No way! Of course I was talking about John Kerry and not you. It was obvious. So what? Why should I apologize for that?! I will not!"

John Kerry appears to be the only person alive who thinks that B is the correct answer.

UPDATE: I was incorrect. Kerry's not the only one who would get the answer wrong. In fact, a few people seem to need an additional answer: C) "Yeah, that's right! I called you a jerk! You wanna make something of it, jerk-face?"

UPDATE 2: Kerry apologizes. Sort of. More of a "Sorry I botched a joke, but you knew that I just botched a joke because I know you can read my mind, and anyone who took it differently is an idiot or a liar."

Perhaps the above should have included an option D) "I'm sorry, you idiot."

I think it unmasks the subtle but masked contempt the Left has always had for the US Military. This contempt runs rather deeply in the Democratic party in general in my opinion. It represents a fundamental inability to confront with violence the truly lethal forces of islamofacism that want us dead. I don't want this type of mentality in charge of our national security and military forces. Only a fool could not see the relationhip of the spike in Iraqi violence and the upcoming US elections.

You know, when Kerry apologized for his "botched joke," I thought he was referring to his 2004 presidential campaign.

I expect his narcissism will not let him understand he is no longer on the national scene, will not be the nominee in '08, will never stamp the presidency with his peculiarities. Nonetheless, true. But it may not be a plus for republicans.

I liked the suggestion of an emailer to NRO who suggested the President respond to Kerry's "apology" by saying something like "I think we should accept the Senator's explanation that he did not mean to say the troops were stupid, but instead intended a personal insult to the President of the United States."
