Education Nonsense Not Limited to the United States
Unfortunate curriculum changes are taking place in Britain. Especially bad, I think, are the proposed changes to science curriculum. How can a secondary school student possibly have the requisite background to make a gainful study of nuclear energy, IVF, and stem cells? He cannot. And because he cannot, I think one can assume that such curriculum changes represent a switch to more soft science instruction: general, over-arching discussions without the actual hard science that includes the use of equations, observation, and experimentation.
But that's not all: Hitler and Churchill are to be left out of history (?!!!) and joining into geography are climate change (Again, where is the requisite scientific background for this?) and the "effect of buying cheap clothes on the Third World" (Will there be discussion or can we just assume that the issue will be presented through a socialist lense?). There's more at the link.
The changes look more like political engineering than education. Everyday it becomes easier to make the case for homeschooling.
