A comment I left today on Althouse sums it up:
I am getting extremely offended by this liberal meme that attractive women are nothing more than beauty queens regardless of their accomplishments. Palin has accomplished more in her short time in office than most accomplish over entire careers. But none of that matters; she's pretty, so that's all she is.I mean, what the hell? Reading the Dowd column Althouse links would lead one to believe that the only thing Palin has ever done is enter beauty contests. And Dowd's hardly alone; her commentary is par for the course.
Absolute sexism.
Democrats, champions of feminism? Bull. Oh right, the fact that they want to ensure we have the right to kill our own children, half of them women, in the womb is supposed to trump all. Give me a break.

We all know the media is in the tank, but I have been simply astounded by the degree of their ridiculous, sexist reaction to the phenomenal Palin pick. The Dowd column is a perfect example. It just kills them that this lady has actually accomplished more in her life, while living decent all-American values, than they ever could dream of doing. Like I wrote over in my blog, if Palin were liberal, Julia Roberts would already have won an Oscar for playing her. But because, horror of horrors, she refused to murder her own child, she's just some hick beauty queen who should be home taking care of her kids. Anyway, its pretty unreal and incredibly frustrating (at least when they were biased against McCain, he deserved it as payback for sucking up to them all those years). I hope Rush doesn't take Labor Day off, we need all the pushback we can get!

Maureen Dowd is a bitter old maid who could have had a husband and family long ago if she'd not been a typical liberal bitch. She's just filled with so much envy it reeks.
What has Palin accomplished? I read the Wikipedia post and all I saw were a mix of blunders and political hirings and firings, the kind that got Alberto Gonzalez canned. The only thing positive she has done is lowered taxes (while raising spending more than ever before) because oil profits for the state went up in the recent surge.
John, I was referring to her work on corruption in the state government and Republican establishment in Alaska. I was going to type it up, and then Newt and Rudy came along...

As an Obama supporter, I'm grateful for McCain's choice of Palin.
It exposes the way Republicans will uncritically fall into line and believe whatever malarky they're told to--even if it radically contradicts what they've earlier been told.
The day before Palin was chosen the most important qualification for being president was long years of service in an executive capacity. That test most presidents who've been elected would fail, of course.
But suddenly we have Palin who's been a governor in a state with a tiny budget that is experiencing big surpluses. Nonetheless she has already gotten herself into ethics trouble over firing her state commissioner for not firing an ex-brother-in-law.
And here's what's truly rich. The party that has made sexism its economic and domestic policy is now crying sexism at the top of its lungs, because the media is rightly asking what makes her qualified if Obama isn't, why did she lie about selling the plane on ebay for a profit, why did she lie about sending back the money for the bridge to nowhere, why was she chosen when several ex-governors who might have put battle-ground states into play were not.
An aside: To hear Dick Morris crying sexism this week was richness indeed. During the 96 Democratic Convention, he bought a hooker and sucked her toes. The Clintons cut him off their payroll and he's hated them (especially Hillary) since.
