Would it be illegal...

... to pay Paul Ryan or Chris Christie ten million dollars to run for President?

I don't think you'd have any trouble raising the money. Maybe if one of them is close enough to the edge of running, it would be enough to put him over.

Isn't that what a campaign contribution is?

That's what I was thinking. I bet it would be construed as an illegal campaign contribution...

Heh. Well, this is somewhat tongue in cheek. But no, not a campaign contribution, specifically not for the campaign. I'm talking about a gift payment to pay one of them to run.

I think that would be construed as a campaign contribution under current law.

If we have to pay 'em, I don't want 'em. Lazy bastards.

you wouldn't have problems raising the money. You could raise the money. But it would be wrong.

Yes, it's a campaign contribution, and sadly, perversely, it is considered illegal.
