The problem is that she has a medical background, and no religious beliefs, so should know better. I'm hoping that a constant barrage of stories like these will snap her out of her illogical and potentially damaging decision to not vaccinate our child.Brian Hamiltonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01863289291366705980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24492394.post-86297272607097829132008-07-15T17:16:00.000-05:002008-07-15T17:16:00.000-05:00Very well written post. My wife was given an early edition of Dr. Sears's book to review and had nothing but good things to say about it. One of the best parts of it, imo, is that it isn't just a glowing review of vaccines, but actually goes into the reasons AND the reasons some few people might want to avoid them.

I do think some of the vaccines they give kids these days are too much - or rather, one in particular bothers me. The chicken pox vaccine I think is just ridiculous and a way for pharmaceutical companies to make money. It protects against a largely benign disease, and, according to recent studies, wears off when the disease can be more dangerous (teenage and adult years when it can lead to shingles).John J.http://www.blogger.com/profile/15113315088960432426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24492394.post-30166742076294268172008-07-15T16:24:00.000-05:002008-07-15T16:24:00.000-05:00I agree it is annoying when Mom's groups get going...I agree it is annoying when Mom's groups get going on the dangers of vaccines. Both of my children were vaccinated on schedule, including one born almost 2 mo early. I have friends who refuse all vaccinations and I have friends who are doing a modified vaccination schedule (which I have less problem with). The family refusing all vaccinations believe vitamins and chiropracty can cure all ills. That said, I wish there was a study to look at when it is most effective to give the various vaccines. At this point I feel like health care professionals (and I say this as an RN myself) just want them vaccinated sooner than later so they can meet their Healthy People 2010 goals :)Sophia N.
